Nintendo Wins Video Game Console Wars in 2008

Nintendo was the clear winner in 2008 for sale of
video game consoles. With Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS systems they
outsold the competition all year long, and in November of 2008 they sold
2 million Wiis beating Microsoft's Xbox 360 which sold (836,000). At
over 1.5 million DS systems sold, Nintendo tripled the output of Sony's
PSP (421,000). For most of 2008 it was Nintendo, Microsoft, with Sony in
last place.
Video Games
The biggest games for Nintendo this year have been
Super Smash Bros. Brawl,
Mario Kart Wii and
Wii Fit which came early in the year. Even with these hits
Microsoft and
Sony were top dogs for individual
video game sales as they focused on the hard core gamers and their
interests. Thanks to Wii though a much broader base of non-gamers has been
brought into the gaming industry.
