I recently bought a
laptop,
and was disappointed to find out there were no
computers, laptops, or otherwise available anymore with
Windows XP . I hate relearning and facing the unknown especially
when it comes to costly purchases for business. So everyone told me at
this computer store that the only operating system available was
Windows Vista. I'm sure you've heard or read all the scary stuff out
there about Windows Vista. So I wanted the tech guys at this computer
store to tell me what was the deal. They told me basically there was no
way of telling what programs I own might or might not work with Windows
Vista. The programming was different. The bright side they said was it was
more possibly secure than Windows XP. That's scary for me because as a
webmaster I have a lot of software I just can't afford to repurchase all
over again. Well, I thought to myself I'm going to have to upgrade eventually, I guess. Better to start with a laptop and go from there. So I bought the laptop. I'm happy to say that most of my software is working so far. The free mouse they gave me didn't work for even a second. The drivers would not install. There's this frustrating little learning curve as to finding everything that seems illogical to me. Why move things around? What's the point. I want to get to work and just do it. I don't need to waste time relearning the crazy operating system. Today I just found out that Amazon still has Windows XP for sale. I thought this is great news for me as a backup plan and for others out there that might not want to give in to Microsoft's demands to upgrade to a new operating system just yet. Who knows how long they'll be available, but for a small business I think it's a wise purchase. Smart idea to always have a backup plan because it doesn't look like you can buy a computer with XP already on it anymore. Well at least not at a computer store. I also found out at least for a while you can still buy computers with XP on them via the net. Here's a bunch of PC's with XP for sale. It's always good to have options. Just remember either way you go, XP or Vista, there's bound to be some issues of compatibility with drivers either with old to new or new to old at some point.
