I've been a huge B.A. fan for years. He didn't start out too great, but with Cuts Like A Knife in '83 and (especially) Reckless in '84, Bryan found his sound. During the '80s, he was commonly referred to as "cheesy", a claim I never found to have any merit. However, when it comes to this record, "Waking Up The Neighbours", I think that I, a Bryan Adams fanatic, would have to agree. The album has too many tracks. That wouldn't be a problem if they were all amazing, but sadly half of them are filler. The first few on the album are strong, as are some of the last few. In between though, it kinda just lags like a wounded duck trying to make it to that magical number 15. "Thought I'd Died And Gone To Heaven" is a strong track, but it could have done without the cheesy backing gang vocals that sound more than a little Def Leppard-esque. This seems to be a running theme throughout the album. The 'woahs' in "Not Guilty" prove this. Not to mention the entire song "All I Want Is You," which sounds ENTIRELY like Def Leppard from start to finish. The drums sound pretty cheesy in a lot of the songs as well, especially "House Arrest," another particularly bad track that might have been saved by better lyrics and drums that didn't sound like Bon Jovi. "Do I Have To Say The Words?" sticks out, however, as a strong ballad, with a great lead guitar line and chorus. Some of the better tracks also include the opener "Is Your Momma Gonna Miss You?", the closer "Don't Drop That Bomb On Me," the mega-hit "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You," and the cheesy-sounding, yet surprisingly awesome song "Touch The Hand." The album's stand-out track, however, is "Can't Stop This Thing We Started", which is arguably one of Bryan's best tunes from the '90s. Overall, it's Bryan Adams, so there are gonna be some great songs and some bad songs. This is probably his weakest effort, but still worth checking out for a few good songs. Just don't expect much. Check out Reckless and On A Day Like Today for some better tunes. Oh, and if you're a Def Leppard fan, you've found their missing album.

Though one of Bryan Adams' least known albums, I think it's one of his best. Happy rockin'!

I was surprised to hear one of the negative reviews say this album was so horrible compared to the previous ones. I thought it was a perfect progression from his previous work. I love Reckless, etc. but I also love this album, so I must respectfully but strenuously disagree with that statement.
I also take issue with people who bash Bryan's lyrics, and his "radio friendly" songs. First of all, If a song has great lyrics, that's great, but many people, including myself, aren't looking for thought-provoking poetry here. We're looking for a good, fun song, and Bryan delivers that in spades. And since when is it a bad idea to write songs that work particularly well on the radio? That IS where most people hear them, isn't it? Now you can take this approach WAY too far (Nickelback, etc) but I don't think he does at all.
And as far as the lead guitar work on this album, it rivals that of Reckless. The highlights would have to be "Don't Drop That Bomb On Me" and "Everything I Do," but almost every song on this album has some great solos.
Rhythm work is rock-solid here as well, with some of his patented hooks in songs like "Can't Stop.." "Hey Honey I'm Packin' You In" etc. "House Arrest" is one of the coolest songs I've ever heard, and the lyrics are fun. No need to talk about drugs or having sex like most other musicians do, just a fun ride.
Some of the songs on this album did take a while to grow on me, namely tracks #1,5,6,and 11 but they are some real hidden gems, as far as I'm concerned. If you like Bryans music, get this album. Simple as that. I wish he was still writing music like this.

I grew up listening to this cd nonstop. I bought at least five tapes because they'd keep on breaking. I recently pulled the cd out of my collection while ripping some files onto my MP3 player. I still remember all the words to the songs but the cd is a bit cheesey to me now. Its funny how everyone I know hates Bryan Adams but I love him. His early stuff was better. Still though, a great rock album.
