Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: Although Frank Sinatra had often expressed dislike for the smash title hit on this 1966 album, it is best known for providing some of the last tracks that the singer and his legendary arranger, Nelson Riddle, produced together. Some memorable tracks include "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever," "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World," and "You're Driving Me Crazy." The CD is a straight, no-frills reissue of the original vinyl release. --Stephen M.H. Braitman

Actually this was my second Sinatra album. Ol Blue Eyes IS Back being the first. Being a generation behind this artist I had to go through a few rock albums first. One night on the radio I heard his rendition of Send In The Clowns and many albums, concerts and joyful days gone by he is still the guy. I own most of the available catalog from lp to cd and this record just swings for me. Give Nelson Riddle much credit for this. Anytime he collaborated with Sinatra, great recordings came forth. I think that people who are expecting one of Frank's great albums in 1966 aren't aware that he never reached the same heights after recording the wonderful 'Moonlight Sinatra' album, just before this one. There were only two complete albums that are really worth having after this album - the 1967 bossa nova album with Jobim and the 1981 'She Shot Me Down' album.
The later 1960's albums weren't as well organised - he tried different arrangers, different producers, instead of one person to give ... Read More

Strangers In The Night may showcase Frank Sinatra after his voice had changed somewhat with age; but I honestly like these recordings very much anyway. The quality of the sound is great and the artwork is nicely done. Frank's voice still had quite a bit of energy; and on this album he was quite able to use his voice to convey all the subtle nuances and emotions of the lyrics he sang. This album also pairs Frank with Nelson Riddle & His Orchestra. My only real disappointment is that this is indeed a no ... Read More

Of the three albums Frank made in an attempt to "get with the times" by updating his sound the fit ever changing sounds of the 1960s, this 1966 effort is not only the first the best. It manages to include some unique modernized touches but for the most part stays rooted in the traditional Sinatra sound. (The problem with the other albums was that they did just the opposite.)
Frank is in excellent voice, Nelson Riddle's arrangements are excellent, and the songs are top notch. The atmosphere ... Read More

It is hard for me to really understand the thought process behind this album. As many have noted, despite the popularity of the title track there are better songs on this album. Summer Wind is one of my favorites, and On A Clear Day is wonderful as well. But this album is both short and rough around the edges. For example on You're Driving Me Crazy Frank flubs the word "Hurtin". He starts with a very Jersey "Hoytin" and breaks off half way and sings it again. Was this a joke that I don't get because ...
